Activate antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW]), general
The ATA is automatically activated with the central locking (CL) when the vehicle is locked. Then the individual alarm inputs are monitored. The activated ATA is displayed by a permanently flashing antitheft alarm system readiness display (N70e4) in the overhead control panel control unit (DBE) (N70).
FY1 Before locking the CL, the tow-away protection or interior protection (with CODE () Theft protection package) can be deactivated in the overhead control panel control unit (OCP).
Activation of the ATA [EDW] comprises the following partial functions:

Function sequence for activating ATA on vehicles with CODE FY1 (theft protection package)
The ATA is activated when the CL is locked. The electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (N73) transmits the status of the CL via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the anti-theft system control unit (ATA) (N26/6). Then the ATA is activated.
Function sequence for activating ATA on vehicles with CODE FZ5 (Anti-theft alarm system)
On vehicles with CODE FZ5 (Anti-theft alarm system) an anti-theft system control unit (ATA) is not installed and the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) (N10/1) has the master function for ATA.
The ATA is activated when the CL is locked. The electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) transmits the CL status via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM). Then the ATA is activated.
Special case driver door: If the driver door is still open when the CL is locked, it is not locked. After closing the driver door, the left front door control unit (N69/3) sends the status of the driver door via interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM). The alarm input is included in the polling cycle. This leads to actuation of an alarm when opening the driver door without previous deactivation of the ATA [EDW].

Additional function requirements for switching off tow-away protection of ATA

Function sequence for switching off anti-towing protection for ATA on vehicles with CODE FY1 (theft protection package)
The tow-away protection is deactivated via the tow-away button (N70s9) in the overhead control panel control unit (OCP). The overhead control panel control unit (OCP) transmits the tow-away protection deactivate signal via the interior CAN to the anti-theft system control unit (ATA).

The interior protection is deactivated via interior protection button (N70s8) in the overhead control panel control unit (OCP). The overhead control panel control unit (OCP) transmits the interior protection deactivate signal via the interior CAN to the anti-theft system control unit (ATA).

Function sequence for monitoring switch
The status (open or closed) of the following switches or actuators is checked cyclically every 200 ms:
- Left front door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/3s1) in left front door central locking actuator (M14/3)
- Right front door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/4s1) in right front door central locking actuator (M14/4)
- Liftgate rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/7s1) in opening assist (M14/7) on vehicles with CODE W65 (liftgate)
- Left mechanical sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/40s1) in left mechanical sliding door central locking actuator (M14/40) on vehicles with CODE T19 (Left sliding door)
- Right mechanical sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/41s1) in right mechanical sliding door central locking actuator (M14/41)

The left front door control unit reads in the status of the left front door rotary tumbler microswitch and transmits it via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM). The right front door control unit (N69/4) reads in the status of the right front door rotary tumbler microswitch and transmits it via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM).
The signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) directly reads in the status of the right mechanical sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch and on vehicles with CODE T19 (Left sliding door) the status of the left mechanical sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch.
On vehicles with CODE T56 (Electrical actuation for left sliding door) the left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7) directly reads in the status of the left sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch and transmits it to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) via the interior CAN.
The right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6) on vehicles with CODE T55 (Electrical actuation for right sliding door) directly reads in the status of the right sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch and on vehicles with CODE W68 (EASY-PACK liftgate) the status of the liftgate rotary tumbler microswitch with electrical actuation and transmits it via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM).
The signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) directly reads in on vehicles with CODE W65 (Liftgate) the status of the liftgate rotary tumbler microswitch and on vehicles with CODE W64 (Separately opening rear window) the status of the rotary tumbler microswitch for separately opening rear window.
On vehicles with CODE W50 (Two-wing rear-end door, 180 degrees without window) or CODE W54 (Two-wing rear-end doors, opening to sidewall) the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) directly reads in the status of the right rear-end door rotary tumbler microswitch and the status of the left rear-end door rotary tumbler microswitch.
The signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) directly reads in the status of the engine hood switch and evaluates the status of all other alarm inputs.
Function sequence for activating tow-away protection
The tow-away protection is activated 60 s after the CL is locked and the last door is closed and the liftgate is activated (if not previously deselected for the next locking operation).
On vehicles with CODE FY1 (theft protection package) the inclination sensor in the anti-theft alarm system control unit (ATA) determines the reference position, with which the relative vehicle inclination is compared during the active time.. Determination of the reference position takes approx. t = 10 to 15 s. An alarm can only be triggered approx. 60 s after the ATA [EDW] is armed, at the earliest.
When the maximum vehicle inclination is exceeded with regard to the reference position, an alarm is triggered. If the vehicle inclination changes very slowly (e.g. leaky tire), the reference position adapts to the current vehicle position to prevent inadvertent activation of the inclination sensor. If the inclination sensor is faulty, all other components of the ATA continue to function properly and the corresponding fault codes are entered in the fault memory in the ATA [EDW]/tow-away protection/interior protection control unit.
Function sequence for activating interior protection (with CODE FY1 (theft protection package))
The interior protection is activated only 10 s after the CL is locked and the last door is closed and the liftgate is activated (if not previously deselected for the next locking operation). The interior protection is ready for an alarm after another 10 s, because it is first necessary to calibrate the ATA [EDW]/tow-away protection/interior protection control unit to match the vehicle interior. If a defect is detected, the remaining ATA functions are still ensured regardless of this error. The corresponding fault codes are stored in the fault memory of the tow-away protection/interior protection control (ATA).
Function sequence for activating alarm siren (with CODE FY1 (theft protection package))
The alarm siren with additional battery (H3/1) is armed together with the ATA and check cyclically every 600 ms by the anti-theft system control unit (ATA) via the alarm system LIN (LIN B14).
Deactivating ATA: The ATA is deactivated completely by opening the CL with the transmitter key (A8/1) via radio to the FM, AM antenna (A2/51) and FM, AM antenna amplifier (A2/18) to the electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) or by inserting the transmitter key into electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS). The electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) transmits the corresponding signal via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM), which then deactivates the ATA.
