Reversing camera, general
The reversing camera control unit (B84/3) (model 447.6/7, 448.7 with code W65 (Liftgate)) or the reversing camera control unit (B84/5) (model 447.8, 448.8) or the rear-end door reversing camera control unit (B84/10) (model 447.6/7, 448.7 with code W50 (Two-wing rear-end door, 180 degrees, without window) or with code W54 (Rear-end door, double wing, 270 degrees)) is integrated in the reversing camera. The reversing camera is an optical parking aid. Its tasks include the recording of images of the area to the rear of the vehicle, the generation of dynamic and static guide lines and transmission of picture signals to the radio (Audio) (N87/2) (model 447.6/7, 448.7) or the radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) (model 447.8, 448.8). The picture signals recorded by the reversing camera are accordingly processed and corrected. The current driving path is calculated based on the vehicle dimensions, ground speed and the rotation angle.
The reversing camera function comprises the following subfunctions:
- Activate reversing camera function sequence
- Function sequence for actuating the camera cover
- Function sequence for picture recognition and picture output
Activate reversing camera function sequence
The electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) transmits the status "circuit 15 active" to the reversing camera via front end CAN (CAN G) (model 447.6/7, 448.7) or via chassis CAN (CAN E), gateway for user interface CAN (N93/4) and user interface CAN (CAN HMI) (model 447.8, 448.8).
Automatic activation or deactivation of the reversing camera must be enabled via the operating menu of the radio (Audio) (N87/2) (model 447.6/7, 448.7) or the radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) (model 447.8, 448.8). These transmit the status of the function via interior CAN (CAN B), electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) and front end CAN (CAN G) (model 447.6/7, 448.7) or user interface CAN (CAN HMI) (model 447.8, 448.8) to the reversing camera.
- On vehicles with TRANSMISSION 700.7 or TRANSMISSION 711.6, activation of reverse gear is recorded by the backup lamp switch (S16/2). The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit (N10/1) reads in this signal via a direct line and transmits it to the electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) via interior CAN (CAN B).
- On vehicles with transmission 722.9, activation of gear range "R" is recorded by the fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) (N15/11) and the corresponding signal is sent to the electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) via drivetrain CAN (CAN C), CDI control unit (N3/33) and chassis CAN (CAN E).
The electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) uses the incoming information to generate the "Reverse gear engaged" status that is independent of the type of transmission and transmits it to the reversing camera via front end CAN (CAN G) (model 447.6/7, 448.7) or via interior CAN (CAN B), gateway for user interface CAN (N93/4) and user interface CAN (CAN HMI) (model 447.8, 448.8). This activates the reversing camera.
The reversing camera is deactivated under the following conditions:
- Circuit 15 inactive
- Function disabled via operating menu of radio (Audio) (N87/2) (model 447.6/7, 448.7) or of radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) (model 447.8, 448.8)
- Reverse gear or gear range "R" not engaged
Function sequence for actuating camera cover (model 447.6/7, 448.7 With Code W65 (Liftgate) and model 447.8, 448.8)
The reversing camera transmits the corresponding request via front end CAN (CAN G) (model 447.6/7, 448.7 with code W65 (Liftgate)) or via user interface CAN (CAN HMI), gateway for user interface CAN (N93/4) and interior CAN (CAN B) (model 447.8, 448.8), electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) and interior CAN (CAN B) to the camera cover (KAB) control unit (N144). The camera cover (KAB) control unit (N144) actuates the camera cover motor via the liftgate open switch, exterior operation, reversing camera/360° camera (S202) directly.
On model 447.8, 448.8, the camera cover can be opened for cleaning the camera lens, using the operating menu of the radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6); no picture is displayed in this case. The radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) transmits the request "Service mode" to the reversing camera. The path of the signal is the same as that for automatic opening of the camera cover.
During calibration, the camera cover remains open, even after deactivating the reversing camera, for the duration of the calibration process.
Function sequence for picture recognition and picture output
- On MODEL 447.6/7, the reversing camera transmits the request for display of picture signals to the radio (Audio) (N87/2) via front end CAN (CAN G), electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) and interior CAN (CAN B). Then, the reversing camera transmits the picture signals via low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the radio (Audio) (N87/2), in whose display they are shown.
- On model 447.8, 448.8, the reversing camera transmits the request for display of picture signals to the radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) via user interface CAN (CAN HMI). The reversing camera then transmits the picture signals to the radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) via a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line. From there, the picture signals are transmitted via the low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display control unit (A40/8) and shown there.
Taking into account the steering angle and stored vehicle parameters, the reversing camera calculates guide lines which are shown in the displayed picture. The rotation angle is recorded by the steering angle sensor; this is integrated in the steering column tube module (MRM) control unit (N80).
- On model 447.6/7, 448.7, the steering column tube module (MRM) control unit (N80) transmits the corresponding signals to the reversing camera via chassis CAN (CAN E), electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) and front end CAN (CAN G).
- On model 447.8, 448.8, the steering column tube module (MRM) control unit (N80) transmits the corresponding signals to the reversing camera via chassis CAN (CAN E), electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73), interior CAN (CAN B), gateway for user interface CAN (N93/4) and user interface CAN (CAN HMI).
When the liftgate or rear-end door is open, the displayed picture is hidden by a warning message. The guide lines are hidden from view.
With the reversing camera, the driver is able to choose between the following modes:
- Maneuvering mode
- Trailer mode (with CODE Q22 (Trailer hitch, non-removable ball head) or with CODE Q50 (Trailer hitch, removable ball head))
- Wide-angle mode
