Location

The PARKTRONIC sensors are integrated in the front and rear bumpers.

Task

The PARKTRONIC sensors record the distance between the vehicle and an obstacle; the data are directly read in by the PARKTRONIC (PTS) control unit (N62). The outer left front PARKTRONIC sensor (B8/18) and the outer right front PARKTRONIC sensor (B8/21) also carry out parking space detection.

Function

The PARKTRONIC sensors actuated by PARKTRONIC (PTS) control unit transmit an ultrasonic signal and are ready to receive after a short "dead time" (time for the decay of the diaphragm). Every PARKTRONIC sensor receives the echoes of its own ultrasound signals (direct echoes) as well as the echoes of the ultrasound signals from adjacent PARKTRONIC sensors (cross echoes). The distance to the obstacle is calculated from the run times of the direct echoes and the position of the obstacle is calculated from the cross echoes.
