Onboard Logic Unit (OLU), Basic Function - GF54.21-D-9881A
Model All (Light transporter)
General
The Onboard Logic Unit (OLU) is an innovative vehicle interface that connects the vehicle to a cloud and thus enables various new services and functions of third-party providers to be linked.
Structure
The OLU is a Linux-kernel-based, high-performance vehicle control unit that is connected to the Internet. The OLU abstracts vehicle functions to a higher abstraction interface and is connected to the actual vehicle through various interfaces.
The OLU hardware consists of the OLU communication module and optionally also the OLU central computer, and has a multitude of interfaces and connections. The OLU makes the vehicle an active part of the "Internet of Things". Thanks to the OLU, devices such as vehicle sensors, cameras or temperature sensors can be connected to each other. Third-party providers will be able to develop apps and functions themselves in future on the basis of the software of the OLU, and also offer these to other users for download.
Task
Among other things, the OLU enables transport companies to optimize and expand existing areas of activity, and to open up new areas of activity. Together with modern sensor systems and data analysis, the combination of modern hardware and software ensures that the vehicle is used in a flexible manner. Fleet managers and drivers benefit equally from the OLU interface.
The OLU simplifies the technical access and handling of live vehicle data without the need for vehicle-specific specialist knowledge.
Using the OLU, third-party providers can develop significantly simpler and faster applications and software and implement these in the vehicle.
In order to guarantee the safety of the systems and data, these are only provided on a use-specific basis and therefore cannot be used for other purposes. Connection to the on-board digital OLU communication module allows "over-the-air-update" functions to be updated and expanded during operation.
