General
Together with the 48 V battery (6), the DC/DC converter control unit (20) forms the power pack.
The DC/DC converter control unit (20) connects the 12 V on-board electrical system to the 48 V on-board electrical system and regulates the energy exchange between these two on-board electrical systems. It is connected to the vehicle's network architecture.
Function requirements
- Terminal 30t ON
- Terminal 30c ON
Function
The DC/DC converter control unit (20) consists of an output unit and a logic section. The output unit connects the 12 V on-board electrical system with the 48 V on-board electrical system and enables energy transfer in both directions. The logic section is responsible for communication with other control units and for actuating the output unit.
The DC/DC converter control unit (20) is networked with the 48 V battery (6). It includes energy management for the 48 V on-board electrical system.
To prevent the battery from overheating, a heat sink with coolant connection (13, 14) is located in the 48 V power pack. Depending on the model, there is also a fast thermal cooling and heating element. When the battery is cold, the cooling and heating element acts as a battery heater. As soon as the battery has heated up, it improves cooling. This maintains operation even at extreme temperatures.
The DC/DC converter control unit (20) also processes the following information:
- Terminal status
- Engine running status
- Starter-alternator status (7)
- Starter-alternator voltage actual value (7)
- Starter-alternator current actual value (7)
- Charging voltage specified value
- On-board electrical system battery voltage actual value (4)
- Battery current switch status
- Vehicle speed
- Status of driver's door (open or closed)
The DC/DC converter control unit (20) processes these input factors and also sends the following information:
- Operating rate of DC/DC converter
- DC/DC converter current
- Temperature of DC/DC converter
- State of charge of 48 V battery (6)
- Temperature
- Current of 48 V battery (6)
- Voltage of 48 V battery (6)
- Detection of thermal runaway
