General
The DC/DC converter control unit (N83/3) is installed as a separate component part in the vehicle and is located in the engine compartment above the electric machine (A79/1).
The DC/DC converter control unit (N83/3) is part of the low-temperature circuit of the cooling system for the electric drive (NT1)
Function
Tasks
The DC/DC converter control unit (N83/3) enables energy to be exchanged between the high-voltage on-board electrical system and the 12 V on-board electrical system, by transforming the high voltage direct voltage (primary voltage) into 12 V direct voltage (secondary voltage).
Networking
Input parameters are read in by the DC/DC converter control unit (N83/3) via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Hybrid CAN (CAN L)
The following input and output parameters are read in or output via direct lines by the DC/DC converter control unit (N83/3):
| Input parameters via direct line | Output parameters via direct line |
|---|---|
| Circuit 15 | - |
| - | Circuit 30 |
| Circuit 30c | - |
| Circuit 30t | - |
| Circuit 31 | - |
| Interlock circuit | Interlock circuit |
Input parameters and output parameters for the following control units are sent or received by the DC/DC converter control unit (N83/3):
| Input parameters via power connections (high voltage) | Output parameters via power connections (high voltage) |
|---|---|
| High-voltage power distributor (N116/11) | - |
The interlock circuit serves to protect people against inadvertent contact with high-voltage components. The interlock is an anticipatory contact which opens a little before the high-voltage connection when opening a high-voltage connection. All plugs are contact-protected. Seating of all connector couplings is monitored by an interlock circuit.
Input parameters and output parameters for the following control units are sent or received by the DC/DC converter control unit (N83/3) via hybrid CAN (CAN L):
| Input and output parameters via hybrid CAN (CAN L) | Additional information |
|---|---|
| Head unit (A26/17) | - |
| High-voltage battery (G1/29) | - |
| Sound generator control unit (N12/2) | - |
| DC charge-connection unit (N24/6) | - |
| AC charger for high-voltage battery (N83/11) | - |
| HERMES control unit (N112/9) | - |
| Drivetrain control unit (N127) | Contains signals of other control units that are connected via CAN. |
Ground connection
The "Circuit 31" ground connection is made via a ground line to the DC/DC converter ground point (W116).
Power supply
The DC/DC converter control unit (N83/3) is supplied with power via "Circuit 30t" and at ignition "ON" by "Circuit 15".
