DANGER Risk of fire  /risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Perform commissioning of DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1). If the DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1) is replaced.  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06ME
2 Expose floor covering (1) in right rear passenger compartment far enough until battery cover (2) is accessible.   AR68.80-P-0003ME
3 Remove battery cover (2).    
4 Clamp off ground line of on-board electrical system battery (G1).   AR54.10-P-0003ME 
5 Remove dust cap (4).    
6 Remove nuts (5) and remove electric lines from DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1).    
7 Release and disconnect electrical connector (6).    
8 Remove foam material (10).    
9 Remove bolts_(7).    
10 Remove DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1) vertically upwards. NOTES
Make sure that the DC/DC converter control
unit (N83/1) is not tilted.
Otherwise the contact pin (8) will be damaged
IMPORTANT The DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1) is bonded to the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) by the thermal compound applied between them.
 
INSPECT Check     
11 Check contact pin (8) and associated contact sleeve in DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1) for damage. If damage is present, 1
Replace 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) or DC/DC converter control unit
(N83/1).
 
      AR54.10-P-0022ME 
12 Check threads of bolts (7) and 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3). If damage is present,

Recut corresponding threads.
 
13 Check seal (9) for damage. If damage is present,

Replace seal (9).

14 Check contact surface of 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) for damage. If damage is present, 1
Replace 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3).

15 Check contact surface of DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1) for damage. If damage is present,

Replace DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1)]
 
CLEAN Clean     
16 Thoroughly clean contact surface of 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3). When reusing 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3).
IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools 
Plastic spatula
 
17 Thoroughly clean contact surface of DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1). When reusing the DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1).
IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools 
Plastic spatula
 
INSTALLING Install     
18 Apply thermal compound to contact surface of DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1).   AR54.10-P-1351-01FR 
    IMPORTANT Process thermal compound within 1 h.
IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools 
 
    50 ml double-cartridge gun
Thermal compound

19 Place DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1) onto 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) and press down evenly.    
20 Tighten bolts (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, control unit of DC/DC converter to on-board electrical system battery (48Volt) *BA54.10-P-1007-01L 
21 Install foam material (10).    
22 Connect and lock electrical connector (6) to DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1).    
23 Connect electric lines to DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1) and tighten nuts (5). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, positive line/ground line to DC/DC converter control unit/on-board electrical system battery (48V) *BA54.10-P-1006-01L 
24 Fit dust cap (4).    
25 Clip on ground line of the on-board electrical system battery (G1).   AR54.10-P-0003ME 
26 Install battery cover (2).    
27 Install floor covering (1) in rear passenger compartment.   AR68.80-P-0003ME
