WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m).    
2 Remove upper engine cover. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not install upper engine cover until after the leak test.  
3 Remove cap (2). IMPORTANT The coolant temperature should be approx. 40°C.  
4 Clamp off coolant hoses (3, 4). Engine 177.9 in model 290

5 Suction coolant out of low-temperature circuit expansion reservoir (1). FLUID SPECIFICATION Cooling system *BF20.00-P-1001-02LA 
    SPECIAL TOOL Hand pump Fig 2
6 Remove coolant hoses (3, 4) from the low-temperature circuit expansion reservoir (1).   AR20.20-P-7441-01RQ
7 Remove screw (5). Engine 177.8 in model 290  
8 Remove low-temperature circuit expansion reservoir (1). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Wet elastomer bearings with lubricating paste.  
    Antifriction paste, rubber parts 2.5 kg, DBL 6867.00 *BR00.45-Z-1002-06A 
9 Check the elastomer bearings of the low-temperature circuit expansion reservoir (1) for damage. If damage is present:
↓
replace elastomer bearing.
 
10 Install in the reverse order.    
11 Check the coolant level in the low-temperature circuit expansion reservoir (1), and correct it if necessary. FLUID SPECIFICATION Cooling system *BF20.00-P-1001-02LA 
12 Perform a ventilation routine on the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10).    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
13 Check low-temperature circuit for leak tightness.   AR09.41-P-1011MNI 
14 Install upper engine cover.
