General information
The parking space detection function makes the search for suitable parking spaces (28) easier. All detected parking spaces (28) are shown on the central display.
Parking space detection can be switched on and off manually.
Function requirements
- Engine in operation or drivetrain operational.
- Vehicle speed below 35 km/h.
- No anti-lock braking system (ABS) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) intervention during last 5 s.
Function
The parking space search/detection function is realized through the external distance sensors in the front bumper. These monitor the area to the left and right of the vehicle and therefore have a larger range than the other distance sensors.
Basically, suitable parking spaces (28) on both sides of the vehicle are searched for. A parking symbol (25) is displayed in the instrument cluster during parking space search/recognition.
Detected parking spaces are shown on the instrument cluster and the central display through directional arrows (26, 27). The directional arrows (26, 27) indicate the side of the roadway on which suitable parking spaces (28) are detected.
The parking space (28) and the parking direction can be selected freely in the central display. The automatic parking procedure can then be started, otherwise, the parking space search continues.
Parking space detection evaluates the following function-relevant parameters:
- Drive range
- Electric power steering status
- Wheel speeds and direction of rotation
- Steering wheel angle
- ABS and ESP® status
- Trailer recognition (vehicles with trailer hitch)
