General
With the aid of the remote telematics services, the user can transmit information and operation requests to the vehicle and receive vehicle data.
To do this, the user uses his devices (e.g. smartphone, tablet or PC) to exchange data with the telematics services control unit via the Service Center. The control unit for telematics services controls the services via a mobile radio connection to the Service Center.
The user has the following options:
- Remote access to various vehicle statuses
- Remote access to defined vehicle functions
The remote telematics services are operated in the vehicle via the multimedia system's display and control elements.
Function requirements
- The corresponding services are activated.
- The telematics services control unit is connected with the Service Center.
The availability of the various remote telematics services varies depending on the model, national version and vehicle equipment.
Function
Vehicle Setup
- Remote locking and remote unlocking:
The user can remotely unlock and lock their vehicle on-line. This function is possible even if there is a key in the vehicle. If the doors or the liftgate are open, the vehicle is not locked. A password must be entered to unlock the vehicle.
- Vehicle status remote query:
The user can query the current status information of various vehicle data on-line. This includes, for example, the kilometer reading, the tank fill level and range or the tire pressure.
- Programming the stationary heater/stationary ventilation:
The user can program the stationary heater and the stationary ventilation via smartphone and see the current status on their smartphone.
- Personalization:
The user can save several preferences in multimedia system control as profiles. With the service, he can call up, edit and erase these profiles via the Customer Portal, or transmit them to a different vehicle (with a compatible multimedia system control).
- Remote configuration:
The user can select, activate and deactivate Mercedes-Benz Apps (e.g. Local Search, Weather, Dictation) through the Mercedes-Benz customer portal.
Vehicle Monitoring
- Vehicle Locator and Vehicle Tracking:
The user can locate the vehicle using their smartphone within a radius of approx. 1.5 km. This makes it easier to find the vehicle, e.g. in large parking lots.
- Vehicle locating:
The user can display the vehicle's current position through transmitted geo-coordinates. If the user activates the function, a symbol appears in the vehicle's central display. The vehicle occupants can switch the function off and on again using the multimedia system or by calling the Service Center.
- Geographical vehicle monitoring:
If the vehicle leaves or reaches an area previously marked by the user, the Service Center will inform them of this on-line. If the user activates the function, a symbol appears in the vehicle's central display. For data protection reasons, the vehicle locating function necessary for geographical vehicle monitoring can be deactivated from the vehicle at any time, as described under "Vehicle Tracker". The user of the service then receives a message that the Vehicle Tracker has been deactivated from inside the vehicle.
- Visual and acoustic vehicle detection:
The user can use their smartphone to make their vehicle flash its lights or sound its horn for a few seconds. This can make it easier to find the vehicle, in multi-level car parks for example.
Other remote telematics services
- Remote-controlled parking:
The vehicle enters and exits a parking space on its own while the user stands nearby and initiates, monitors and ends the process using their smartphone.
- Theft notification (as of 01.06.2018):
The Service Center notifies the user via the app if the anti-theft alarm system triggers or the vehicle detects a collision. A display in the central display notifies the driver of possible damage when the ignition is switched on or during engine start.
- Remote start (as of 01.06.2018):
The user can send the trigger signal for pre-entry climate control via the mobile phone connection to the Service Center. In the parked and locked vehicle (windows and doors closed), the engine starts and then switches itself off again after a defined period of time. Remote start can also be used to charge the battery.
- Notification of a certain speed being exceeded:
As soon as the service is activated, the telematics services control unit reads in the speed value at intervals of a few seconds when circuit 15 is active. If the vehicle exceeds a defined speed, the telematics services control unit transmits a notification to the user.
