IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

  1. Install rear fender (1) and fit.
  2. Install rear bumper.
  3. Install taillamp.
  4. Install seal of rear door and tailgate.
  5. Install striker eye.
  6. Check gaps using SPECIAL TOOL feeler gauge and adjust.
  7. Fix rear fender (1) in place.
  8. Remove striker eye.
  9. Remove seal of rear door and tailgate.
  10. Remove taillamp.
  11. Remove rear bumper.
  12. Drive rivet holes in rear fender (1) with ø 6.7 mm (areas A).
  13. Drill and countersink rivet holes in rear fender (1) with ø 6.7 mm (area A2 ).
  14. Remove rear fender (1).
  15. Deburr rivet holes on rear fender (1) and body on both sides.
  16. Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint (areas A, A2 ).
  17. Install suitable spacers on outer rear wheel well at uniform intervals (area C).
  18. Apply sealant to rear outer wheel well and foam parts (areas B, C).
  19. In the cross-hatched area, apply 2-component adhesive to the body (area D).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  20. Install rear fender (1) and fix in place.
  21. Rivet rear fender (1) with rivets ø 6.4x12 (areas F).
  22. Rivet rear fender (1) with countersunk-head rivets ø 6.4x14.0 (area F1 ).
  23. Rivet rear fender (1) with rivet ø 6.5x12.5 (area G).
  24. Rear fender (1) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas E).
  25. Rear fender (1) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (area H).

  26. Rivet rear fender (1) with ø 6.4x12 rivet (area I).
  27. Rear fender (1) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas J).
  28. Rear fender (1) SHIELDED GAS PLUG WELD (area K).
  29. Rear fender (1) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (areas L).

    IMPORTANT Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.

  30. Grind inert gas welds down flat (areas L).
  31. Solder surfaces on rear fender (1) with body solder and smooth (areas L).

    IMPORTANT A basic body filler can also be used as an alternative to the restoration of the surfaces with body solder.

  32. Remove solder residues and grinding dust.
