B-Pillar Install And Weld In - Ar63.20-P-1350-06FRY

Model 290 with code 397 (Carbon roof) 

Model 290 with code 416 (Panoramic sunroof)

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle on model 290 with code 416 (Panoramic roof). In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

Additional information can be found in the superordinate service document.

The safety information in the superordinate service document must be observed.

  1. Install B-pillar reinforcement (2) with the SPECIAL TOOL side portal frame and portal straightener and fit.

    IMPORTANT Use spacers.

  2. Remove B-pillar reinforcement (2) and portal straightener.
  3. Apply sealant to foam parts in crosshatched areas.

  4. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  5. Install B-pillar reinforcement (2) with the SPECIAL TOOL side portal frame and portal straightener and fix in place.

    IMPORTANT Use spacers.

  6. B-pillar reinforcement (2) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas A).

  7. B-pillar reinforcement (2) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas B).
  8. Remove SPECIAL TOOL side portal frame and portal straightener.
  9. B-pillar reinforcement (2) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (areas C).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.

  10. Face grind inert gas welds on B Pillar reinforcement (2) (areas C).

    IMPORTANT Grind down flat on contact surfaces on B-pillar paneling and beaded area only.

  11. Clean weld joints no longer accessible after installing A-pillar reinforcement and coat with zinc dust paint.

  12. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  13. Install inner roof frame (4), fit, and fix in place.
  14. Inner roof frame (4) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas P).
  15. Inner roof frame (4) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (areas Q).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.

  16. Face grind inert gas welds on inner roof frame (4) in the beaded areas (areas Q).

  17. Install B-pillar paneling (1) and longitudinal member paneling (3), fit and fix in place.
  18. Drill rivet holes on B-pillar paneling (1) and longitudinal member paneling (3) with 6.7 mm bit (area W).
  19. Remove B-pillar paneling (1) and longitudinal member paneling (3).
  20. Deburr rivet holes on B-pillar paneling (1), longitudinal member paneling (3) and body on both sides.
  21. Remove drilling chips.
  22. Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.

  23. Apply sealant to the foam parts in the cross-hatched areas (area W1 ).
  24. Apply 2-component adhesive to the body in the cross-hatched areas (areas W2 ).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  25. Install B-pillar paneling (1) and longitudinal member paneling (3) and fix in place.
  26. Rivet B-pillar trim (1) and longitudinal member paneling (3) with rivets ø 6.4x12 (area X).
  27. B-pillar paneling (1) and longitudinal member paneling (3) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas Y).
  28. B-pillar paneling (1) and longitudinal member paneling (3) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (areas Z).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.

  29. Sand inert gas welds down flat (areas Z).
  30. Solder surfaces on B-pillar paneling (1) and longitudinal member paneling (3) with body solder and smooth (areas Z).

    IMPORTANT A basic body filler can also be used as an alternative to the restoration of the surfaces with body solder.
