Upper Front Longitudinal Member Partial Removal - Ar62.20-P-1287-01FR
Model 257, 290
The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle on model 257. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
Additional information can be found in the superordinate service document.
The safety information in the superordinate service document must be observed.
- Expose and cut off spot welds at strut (2) (areas A, B, C, D, E, F, G).
Cut out spot welds through two panel thicknesses (area B).
- Heat strut (2) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove strut (2).
- Mark separating point on upper front longitudinal member (1) and cut (area I).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
i = approx. 50 mm
- Remove screws (3) at upper front longitudinal member (1).
- Expose spot welds on upper front longitudinal member (1) and cut out (area J).
- Expose self-pierce rivet on upper front longitudinal member (1) and drill through with a drill bit with a diameter of 6 mm (area K).
- Heat upper front longitudinal member (1) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove upper front longitudinal member (1).
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas L).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
