Model 290 

with code B07 (AMG - ceramic brake system) 

except code ME10 (Hybrid vehicle (plug-in, PHEV)) 

MODIFICATION NOTES

17.12.2021 If there is a problem, replace the corresponding brake disk. Operation step 13.

DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
WARNING Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove cover over brake fluid reservoir.    
2 Clean area around cap of brake fluid reservoir. Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
3 Unscrew cap of brake fluid reservoir and suction off some brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the brake fluid reservoir from overflowing when the brake pistons are pushed back.  
4 Remove front wheels.   AR40.10-P-1102A
5 Expose electric line of front right brake lining wear sensor, then release and disconnect electrical connector. When removal of brake linings (2) at front right.  
    IMPORTANT Ensure electric line of front right brake lining wear sensor is routed correctly.  
6 Press back brake pistons slightly using pusher tool. IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL Position the pusher tool at the elevations (arrows) of the brake linings (2).

7 Remove bolts (5). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screw/bolts (5).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, brake caliper to steering knuckle *BA42.10-P-1001-10BA 
8 Unhook brake hose (6) from holder on steering knuckle or on suspension strut.    
9 Remove brake caliper (1) from steering knuckle and secure to vehicles with lines still attached free of tension. NOTES
Do not subject the brake hose (6) and electric line to tension and do not kink them.
The brake hose (6) and the electric line can otherwise be damaged.
 
10 Press brake linings (2) off screw bolts (4) against force of retaining springs (3) and remove from brake caliper (1). IMPORTANT Do not release or remove screw bolts (4).  
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not apply brake paste or lubricants to brake linings (2) and the brake caliper (1).
Only sets of brake linings (2) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
 
INSPECT Check     
11 Check retaining springs (3) for damage and condition. If there is a problem,

replace the retaining springs (3).
 
12 Check brake linings (2) for wear and condition.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If there is a problem,

replace brake linings (2) in sets.

13 Check condition of brake disks on front axle.   AR42.10-P-0270RG 
    If there is a problem,

replace corresponding brake disk.

14 Check brake caliper (1) and dust boots of brake piston for leak tightness and damage. If there is a problem,

replace brake caliper (1).

15 Press back brake pistons all the way using pusher tool. IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL Attach pusher tool onto brake piston.
Secure remaining brake pistons using two SPECIAL TOOL wedges against slipping out.

    If the brake piston is sluggish,

replace brake caliper (1).

CLEAN Clean     
16 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (2) on brake caliper (1) and on brake pistons. NOTES Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects. The brake caliper (1) or the dust boots of the brake pistons can otherwise be damaged.  
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
17 Pull front right brake lining wear sensor out of backing plate of brake lining (2). When replacing brake lines (2) or when replacing front right brake lining wear sensor.
IMPORTANT Pay attention to installation location of front right brake lining wear sensor.
 
18 Install in the reverse order.    
19 Operate brake pedal several times until the brake linings (2) make contact with the brake disks. IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
INSPECT Check     
20 Check/correct brake fluid level in brake fluid reservoir.

21 Perform brake test on test stand.
