Remove/Install Rear Bumper - AR88.20-P-2200FRX

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m).    
2 Raise vehicle.   AR00.60-P-1006A
3 Remove expansion rivets (2) from left and right fender liner (3). SPECIAL TOOL Dismantling tool Fig 1
4 Remove screws (4) on left and right from rear bumper (1).    
5 Remove rear underfloor paneling.   AR61.30-P-1001FR
6 Remove screws (5) on the left and right from rear bumper (1).    
7 Remove screws (7) on the left and right from rear bumper (1).    
8 Remove expansion rivets (6) on the left and right from rear bumper (1). SPECIAL TOOL Dismantling tool Fig 1
9 Disconnect electrical connectors (12). Model 290 with code K31 (SOUND REGULATION FOR ECE R51-03)  
10 Disconnect electrical connectors (13).    
11 Remove rear-end center section trim.   AR68.30-P-4788FRX
12 Unscrew nuts (8). IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools 
Tubular socket wrench (size 10 mm, overall length 160 mm)
 
13 Remove stop buffers (9).    
14 Unclip covers (10) and remove. SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 2
15 Remove screws (11).    
16 Unclip rear bumper (1) on the left and right in the top area (arrows) from the bracket (14). NOTES
Carefully unclip rear bumper (1).
Rear lamps or rear fenders may otherwise be damaged
 
17 Remove rear bumper (1). IMPORTANT Helper required.  
18 Install in the reverse order.    
  Calibrate     
19 Calibrate radar sensors in the rear bumper (1) with the vehicle diagnosis system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   Model 290
with code 233 (Adaptive cruise control Plus (DISTRONIC PLUS))
