Rear Multifunction Camera, Basic Function - GF54.71-P-9894A

Model all (CAR)

with code 200 (Conditionally automated driving)

Overview

This document contains information on:

General information

The rear multifunction camera captures the area behind the vehicle and is required for conditionally automated driving. The task here is to recognize emergency vehicles (police, rescue and fire-fighting vehicles).

The integrated object recognition can distinguish between bikes and multi-track vehicles. Blue, red and orange signal lamps are detected.

The detection range is up to 130 m behind the vehicle. The detection angle is approx. 29° and horizontal approx. 53°. The resolution is 1280x960 (1.2MP). A heated lens hood also acts as a holder for the camera.

Function requirements

Function

The rear multifunction camera records the area behind the vehicle.

The following functions are performed in the electronic analysis and control electronics of the rear multifunction camera:

Lane recognition

The lane markings are detected on both sides of the vehicle's own lane and on the adjacent lane.

Object recognition

Moving objects are detected and classified (bikes, bicycles, cars, trucks).

Signal light detection

Blue, red and orange-colored LED lamps as well as blue bulbs are detected.

Rain/blockage detection

This function detects whether the field of view is restricted (e.g. due to strong dazzling when the sun is low, rain, snow or condensation).

Heating element

In the event of restricted visibility (e.g. due to moisture, wet, rain, ice or snow), the heating element of the lens hood cover is activated. The heating element is directly actuated by the rear multifunction camera.

For redundancy reasons, the rear multifunction camera is connected to the network architecture of the vehicle over CAN 1. The ESP® control unit is the gateway for the required input information. The position determination control unit acts as a gateway for transmission to the driver assistance systems control unit over Ethernet.

Basically, the following information is sent to the driver assistance systems control unit:
