Pre-Entry Climate Control, Basic Function - GF83.40-P-9900A

Electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles

Overview

This document contains information on:

General

The vehicle interior of the parked vehicle can be pre-heated or pre-cooled, as required, before starting a journey, and air quality can be improved depending on the equipment installed.

Pre-entry climate control can be activated immediately or preprogrammed by entering a departure time. The following control options are available:

Function requirements

Function

Pre-entry climate control through unlocking the vehicle

The aim is to briefly heat the seating area on the driver's side when entering the vehicle or to ventilate and cool the area with air from the air vents.

The climate control functions switch on during pre-heating and pre-cooling for up to five minutes.

The pre-entry climate control in the case of unlocking cannot be activated more than three times in succession when the vehicle is parked.

Pre-air conditioning for departure time

The aim is to pre-heat or pre-cool the vehicle interior before departure.

The departure time can be set, selected and activated using the multimedia control or telematics services for hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles (equipment-specific).

Up to three departure times can be configured. When the departure time is activated, the LED in the pre-entry climate control button lights up yellow.

The vehicle interior is cooled or heated until the desired temperature is reached at the set departure time.

The pre-entry climate control is activated for a maximum of t = 50 min in advance.

If the departure is delayed, the vehicle interior is air-conditioned for a further t = 5 min.

If the vehicle is connected to power supply equipment, charging of the high-voltage battery takes priority up to a specified minimum state of charge. Auxiliary climate control at departure time is only activated following this.

If the vehicle is not connected to power supply equipment and the high-voltage battery is not fully charged, the operating time of the pre-entry climate control may be shortened.

Pre-entry climate control is ended when the vehicle is started, or t = 5 min after expiration of the selected departure time.

Pre-entry climate control via pre-entry climate control button

Pre-entry climate control can also be switched on after the desired vehicle interior temperature has already been reached.

This ensures that the vehicle interior is further air-conditioned and the vehicle interior temperature is maintained at a constant level, e.g. with a stopover for up to t = 50 min.

Pre-entry climate control is switched on or off using the pre-entry climate control button in the air conditioning control panel.

Using the indicator lamps in the pre-entry climate control button, the current operating condition of the pre-entry climate control is shown:

Evaluation

The control of the climate control assesses the following information for operation of the pre-entry climate control at the departure time:

The cooling function is active if the vehicle interior temperature lies at least T = 4°C over the set specified temperature or when the lowest-possible specified temperature is set.

The heating function is active if the vehicle interior temperature lies at least T = 4°C under the set specified temperature or when the highest-possible specified temperature is set.

Ventilation mode

If the measurement indicates that the vehicle interior is to be pre-cooled, the control of the climate control activates the following functions:

Heating mode

If the measurement indicates that the vehicle interior is to be heated, the control of the climate control activates the following functions:

IMPORTANT The seat heating and the rear window heater are actuated a maximum of t = 15 min before reaching the departure time.

Improve air quality

To improve air quality in the vehicle, the ionization function is also started, depending on the equipment installed, when the pre-entry climate control is started.

Even if evaluation of the freeze frame data shows that neither cooling nor heating is taking place, the function is started and switched off again after a period of t = 60 s.

IMPORTANT The ionization remains switched on even after an engine start.
