WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m).    
2 Remove upper engine cover (8).    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Only install upper engine cover (8) after leak test. AP01.10-P-2405-01E
3 Remove engine air intake ducts (9).    
4 Unclip hood release cable at air intake fitting (10).    
5 Remove air intake fitting (10).    
6 Drill rivets (11). IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools 
drill
riveter
IMPORTANT Remove drilling chips.
 
7 Remove screws (12) and remove supporting plates (13).    
8 Remove screws (15).    
9 Remove screws (16). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, lock striker to cross member/front-module carrier *BA62.30-P-1008-01H 
10 Remove screws (17). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, strut to cross member *BA62.30-P-1003-01H 
11 Remove screws (18). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, front module carrier/cross strut to body/angle bracket for front module carrier *BA62.30-P-1007-01H 
12 Remove screws (19). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, strut to cross member *BA62.30-P-1003-01H 
13 Remove mounting clips (20).    
14 Remove crossmember (14).    
15 Unclip coolant line (6) from fan unit (5).    
16 Release electrical connector (1) and disconnect.    
17 Remove center and front bottom engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105FRX
18 Unclip bracket (21) at cooling module (22) (arrow), remove and place low-temperature circuit circulation pump 3 (M43/8) to one side with connected lines. Engine 177 in model 290
with code ME10 (Hybrid vehicle (plug-in, PHEV))
 
19 Remove bleed line (2) from cooler. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 1
20 Remove left and right bracket (4) from fan unit (5). IMPORTANT Pull release tabs (7) on left and right (arrow E) and remove brackets (4) on left and right from fan unit (5) (arrow G).  
21 Detach fan unit (5) at radiator frame.    
22 Press retaining lugs (3) rearward in engine compartment direction and remove fan unit (5) upward.    
23 Mount protective plate on cooler. When performing subsequent work in engine compartment.  
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS     WF58.50-P-0110-01A
24 Install in the reverse order.    
25 Check coolant level and correct. FLUID SPECIFICATION Coolant mixing ratio *BF20.00-P-1001-04A 
26 Connect diagnostic system, read out fault memory and clear if necessary.

WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
27 Carry out engine test run and check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.    
28 Install upper engine cover (8).
