Rear Fender Complete Removal - Ar63.50-P-1401-01FRX

Model 290 

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

The safety information in the superordinate service document must be observed.

  1. Mark separating points on rear fender (1) and cut (areas A, B, C).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANT Mark separating points along the Y markings (areas A, B).

    IMPORTANT Mark separating point of the Y marking via the center of the notch (arrow) on the inside (area C).

  2. Separate adhesive bead between the rear outer wheel well and rear fender (1) (area E).

    IMPORTANT The rear fender is bonded to the outer rear wheel well (1).

  3. Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas D).

    IMPORTANT Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.

  4. Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas F).

    IMPORTANT Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.

  5. Expose laser seam on rear fender (1) and cut off (area G).
  6. Heat rear fender (1) in crosshatched area.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched area is bonded.

  7. Heat rear fender (1) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  8. Remove rear fender (1).

  9. Remove remaining adhesive material in area of outer rear wheel well (area H).

    IMPORTANT The height of the remaining adhesive should be max. 2 mm. Always remove loose adhesive.

  10. Repair bare spots in area of outer rear wheel well with primer stick (area H).
  11. Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  12. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
  13. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES The bonding surface may not be coated with zinc dust paint (area I).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
