Upper Front Longitudinal Member Separation - Ar62.20-P-1286-01FR

Model 257, 290 

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle on model 257. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

The safety information in the superordinate service document must be observed.

  1. Expose and cut off spot welds at strut (2) and bracket (4) (areas A, B).

    IMPORTANT Cut out spot welds through two panel thicknesses (areas B).

  2. Remove bracket (4).
  3. Heat strut (2) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  4. Remove strut (2).

  5. Mark separating point on upper front longitudinal member (1) and cut (area C).

    NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    c = approx. 20 mm

  6. Mark separating points on upper front longitudinal member (1) and reinforcement (3) and cut (areas D, E).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

  7. Unscrew bolts (5) from upper front longitudinal member (1).
  8. Expose spot welds on upper front longitudinal member (1) and reinforcement (3) and cut out (areas F).
  9. Expose self-piercing riveting on upper front longitudinal member (1) and drill with ø 6 mm bit (area G).

  10. Heat upper front longitudinal member (1) and reinforcement (3) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  11. Remove upper front longitudinal member (1).
  12. Remove reinforcement (3).

  13. Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  14. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
  15. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas H).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
