DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
WARNING Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Clean area around cap of brake fluid reservoir. Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
2 Remove cap of brake fluid reservoir and suction off some brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the brake fluid reservoir from overflowing when the brake pistons are pushed back.  
3 Remove front wheels.   AR40.10-P-1102A
4 Release and disconnect electrical connector of the right front brake wear sensor (S10/2). When removing brake linings (1) at front right.  
5 Remove electrical wiring harness of right front brake wear sensor (S10/2) from brake caliper (6). When removing brake linings (1) at front right.  
6 Drive out bolts (5) using a suitable tool and remove.    
7 Unscrew screw (2), replace with guide pin and tighten guide pin slightly. SPECIAL TOOL Guide bolts Fig 1
8 Unscrew screw (3), replace with guide pin and tighten guide pin slightly. SPECIAL TOOL Guide bolts Fig 1
9 Push brake caliper (6) with connected brake hose to the side onto guide pin. NOTES
Do not crush or kink brake hose, and do not subject it to tension.
This will result in damage to the brake hose and can impair its function.
 
10 Remove brake linings (1) from brake caliper (6).    
11 Unclip spreader spring (4) from brake caliper (6) and remove.    
12 Pull right front brake wear sensor (S10/2) out of backing plate of brake lining (1). When replacing the brake pads (1) or when replacing the right front brakepad wear sensor (S10/2).  
    IMPORTANT Pay attention to the installation location of the right front brakepad wear sensor (S10/2).  
13 Press back brake pistons with pusher tool. IMPORTANT Secure remaining brake pistons using two SPECIAL TOOL wedges against slipping out.

    If the brake pistons are sluggish,

replace brake caliper (6).

INSPECT Check     
14 Check brake linings (1) for wear and condition.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If there is a problem,

replace brake linings (1) in sets.

15 Check brake disk for wear and condition. If there is a problem,

replace corresponding brake disk.

16 Check brake caliper (6) for damage. If there is a problem,

Replace brake caliper (6).

INSTALLING Install     
17 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (1) at brake caliper (6) and at brake pistons. NOTES
Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects.
Otherwise, the brake caliper (6) and the dust boots at the brake pistons will be damaged.
 
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
18 Insert right front brake wear sensor (S10/2) at backing plate of brake lining (1). When replacing the right front brake linings (1) or when replacing the right front brake wear sensor (S10/2).  
19 Install spreader spring (4) in brake caliper (6). IMPORTANT Replace spreader spring (4).  
20 Insert brake pads (1). IMPORTANT Only brake pads (1) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed, and only as complete sets.  
21 Slide brake caliper (6) onto brake disk.    
22 Install bolts (5). IMPORTANT Replace bolts (5).  
23 Unscrew lower guide pin, replace with screw (3) and tighten screw (3) slightly. IMPORTANT replace screw (3).

24 Unscrew upper guide pin, replace with screw (2) and tighten screw (2) slightly. IMPORTANT Replace bolt (2).

25 Tighten screws (2, 3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, brake caliper to steering knuckle *BA42.10-P-1001-10BA 
26 Attach electrical wiring harness of right front brake wear sensor (S10/2) to brake caliper (6). When installing right front brake linings (1).  
27 Connect electrical connector of right front brake wear sensor (S10/2). When installing right front brake linings (1).  
28 Install front wheels.   AR40.10-P-1102A
29 Operate brake pedal several times until the brake pads (1) make contact with the brake disks. IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
INSPECT Check     
30 Check brake fluid level in brake fluid reservoir, correct if necessary.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4210B
31 Perform brake test on test stand.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.00-P-4290BA
