General
The outside mirrors (1, 2) allow for a view on the traffic at the side behind the vehicle and warn, depending on the equipment, of objects in the blind spot. The outside mirror housing has been designed so that the aerodynamic drag, wind noises and impairments of the field of vision due to fogging and contamination are minimized.
The electric motors and the components integrated in the mirror glass are actuated by the respective front door control unit.
Function requirement
- Circuit 15R ON
Function
The outside mirrors (1, 2) include the following components:
- Outside mirror housings
- Mirror glass
- Mirror glass heater
The mirror glass heater consists of a conductor track on the rear of the mirror glass. When a voltage is applied, this conductor track heats up due to the electrical resistance. The mirror glass can thus be defrosted or a fogging up of the mirror glass can be counteracted.
- Mirror glass dimming (vehicles with automatic anti-dazzle mirrors and only on driver's side)
The dimming or darkening of the mirror glass is realized by an electrolyte gel layer between the reflector and glass cover. This layer contains electrolytes consisting of uniform crystals, similar to a LCD display. Depending on the applied voltage, these crystals align themselves in a specific angle and thus influence the light transmission.
- Mirror glass mechanical components
- Vertical inclination adjustment actuator motor
- Horizontal inclination adjustment actuator motor
- Vertical inclination adjustment potentiometer (vehicles with memory function)
- Horizontal inclination adjustment potentiometer (vehicles with memory function)
- Mirror glass heater
- Fold-back motor (vehicles with electric foldable outside mirrors)
Components of other functions can also be accommodated in the outside mirror housing and mirror glass.
This includes:
- Turn signal lamp
- Blind Spot Assist warning display (vehicles with Blind Spot Assist)
The Blind Spot Assist warning display consists of a LED integrated in the mirror glass.
- Ambient lamp (vehicles with mirror package)
- Camera for 360° camera (vehicles with Parking Package and/or with 360° camera)
- Telephone antenna (vehicles with car telephony)
- GPS antenna (vehicles with navigation system)
- logo projector
