Outer A-Pillar Section Separation - Ar63.20-P-1102-01FR

Model 257, 290 

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle on model 257. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

Additional information can be found in the superordinate service document.

The safety information in the superordinate service document must be observed.

  1. Mark separating points on A-pillar paneling (5) and separate (areas A, B).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    a = approx. 56 mm

    b = approx. 30 mm

  2. Expose spot welds on A-pillar paneling (5) and cut out (areas C).

    IMPORTANT Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.

  3. Remove A-pillar paneling (5).

  4. Mark separating points on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and separate (area C, D).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    c = approx. 37 mm

    d = approx. 55 mm

  5. Expose spot welds on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut out (areas E).
  6. Expose spot welds on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and drill through with a drill bit with a diameter of 6.5 mm (area F).

  7. Heat A-pillar reinforcement (6) in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  8. Remove A-pillar reinforcement (6).
  9. Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  10. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
  11. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas G).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
