The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
Additional information can be found in the superordinate service document.
The safety information in the superordinate service document must be observed.
- Mark separating point on outer D-pillar (1) and disconnect (area A).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a1 = approx. 20 mm
a2 = approx. 60 mm
- Expose spot welds on outer D-pillar (1) and cut out (areas B).
- Expose laser seam on outer D-pillar (1) and cut off (area C).
- Heat outer D-pillar (1) in cross-hatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Heat outer D-pillar (1) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove outer D-pillar (1).
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Areas of the bonding surfaces may not be coated with zinc dust paint (areas D).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe preliminary treatment of bonding surface.
