Occupant Presence Reminder, Basic Function - GF54.30-P-9903A

Model all (CAR)

with code 88B (Passive child recognition in locked vehicle)

Overview

This document contains information on:

General

The occupant presence reminder can signal to the driver not to leave anyone or any animals in the vehicle at the end of the journey. A message appears in the instrument cluster if there is a person or an animal left in the rear passenger compartment at the end of the journey once the engine has been switched off.

The occupant presence reminder contributes particularly to drawing attention to children in the rear of the vehicle that may have been forgotten.

Life-threatening hazards, such as death from heatstroke, freezing or thirst, can thus be avoided.

The system is being initially introduced for model series 118, 167, 177, 206, 214, 223, 232, 236, 243, 247, 254, 290, 294, 295, 296, 297 in the following markets:

The system is intended to be made available worldwide by modification year 2024/1 (YoM 24/1).

Function requirement

Function

Activation

The occupant presence reminder activates and deactivates itself. It assumes that people or animals may have entered or exited the vehicle if the rear door was opened for a longer time.

The system activates both when a rear door is opened for a longer time and a journey then begins and when a rear door is opened for a longer time while the vehicle is stationary and the engine is on.

In order to assess whether or not people or animals may have entered or exited, the occupant presence reminder evaluates various input factors. However, it cannot be absolutely certain whether what it detects is a child and may instead detect an animal or object.

Warning scenario

Warning message:

If the system is active and the vehicle is switched off, the message "No people or animals left behind" will appear in the driver's display along with a warning message symbol.

System inoperative:

If the function requirements are not completely and permanently met, the following message will also appear in the driver's display along with a warning message symbol: "Occupant presence reminder inoperative".

The system is reset when the engine is started or the status of the central locking system is changed.

If the system returns to normal operation, the system will restart with the reset.

The history - and consequently detected accesses or trips - are deleted in the event of a restart.

Deactivation

Permanently switch off

IMPORTANT The occupant presence reminder is switched on ex factory.

The driver can permanently switch off the system in the vehicle settings. See "Occupant protection" in the operator's manual for further information.

If the system is deactivated, a corresponding indicator lamp will light up in the driver's display.

IMPORTANT In the event that the occupant presence reminder is permanently switched off, there will be no signal monitoring and there will be no trigger for a warning scenario.
