Location
The instrument cluster (A1) is located in the dashboard on the driver-side.
Tasks
The instrument cluster has the following tasks:
- Reading in of sensors and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Output of warning tones and indicator tones
- Output of signals
Reading in of sensors and signals
The instrument cluster reads in information and data via the following connections:
- User interface CAN
- High-speed video link
User interface CAN
The signals are read in by the instrument cluster via user interface CAN (CAN HMI).
High-speed video link
The instrument cluster is connected by a high speed video link (HSVL) to the head unit (A26/17). Via this interface, the instrument cluster receives map data from the head unit.
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Output of warning tones and indicator tones
The instrument cluster actuates the instrument cluster speaker (H4/61) in the driver footwell to output warning and indicator tones which are requested by the systems installed in the vehicle.
Output of signals
The instrument cluster sends information and data over the following connections:
- User interface CAN
- High speed video link (with code 463 (Head-up Display))
User interface CAN
The instrument cluster transmits information and data via user interface CAN to various control units.
High speed video link (with code 463 (Head-up Display))
The instrument cluster is connected to the head-up display (A40/12) via a HSVL line. Via this interface, the instrument cluster sends signals for the displays and illustrations shown on the head-up display.
Variants
- Entry CLASSIC (2-tube, analog) (except code 464 (Digital instrument cluster full display))
- High Traditional (2-tube, digital (virtual)) (with code 464 (Digital instrument cluster full display))
On vehicles with code 464 (Digital instrument cluster full display), the right and center display areas of the instrument cluster can be programmed freely.
