Notes On Air Suspension - AH32.22-P-1000-01T
Model all (CAR)
Notes on working on air suspension:
- The pressure in the components or in the overall system may not be relieved by detaching or disconnection of pressure lines. The pressure may only be relieved using a diagnostic system.
- The area of the pressure line connections must be cleaned before starting the repair. Cleaning agents or solvents may not be used here.
- Open pressure lines and pressure line connections must always be sealed.
- For attaching and detaching pressure lines, only flare nut wrenches or special tools may be used.
- Removed or slackened off suspension struts and air suspension bellows may not be filled with compressed air or pushed together; irreparable damage may be caused otherwise.
- The suspension struts and air suspension bellows must not be twisted. Twisting results in the formation of folds and thus in the destruction of the suspension struts and air suspension bellows.
- Observe the proper filling procedure when filling the suspension struts and air suspension bellows.
- The suspension struts and air suspension bellows must not be loaded through spring movements between installation of the suspension struts and air suspension bellows and filling of the system.
- On vehicles with adjustable vehicle level, the vehicle level must be raised before driving through washing facilities, over pits, onto vehicle lifts or on roadways with very uneven terrain.
- The front wheel-and-tire assemblies must be moved to the straight-ahead position when the vehicle is idle for extended periods. Otherwise, the body or the front fender may be damaged in event of pressure loss.
- The leaflet regarding the new suspension struts and air suspension bellows and the expiration date must be observed.
- When the system is unpressurized the vehicle level drops significantly. To avoid damage to the vehicle, emergency buffers must be fitted to the suspension before the vehicle is moved.
- Emergency buffers that are used for transport or shipment on the suspension struts are available from the replacement part department.
Emergency buffers may only
be used for maneuvering.
Model 211.0/2, 219 with code 489 (AIRMATIC) (semiautomatic air suspension)
- The compressed air lines of the air suspension bellows to the additional volume reservoirs must not be removed, as this will result in leaks. This is why it is necessary to remove the rear axle for the removal of the air suspension bellows. The folds of the protective boots of the air suspension bellows must be correct and must not exhibit any dents (impressions). Otherwise, the air suspension bellows may rub against these during vehicle operation and this may result in premature failure of the air suspension bellows.
MODEL 167 with code 489 (AIRMATIC)
- The air suspension is a closed system. The air suspension can be completely filled through an external connection to the electropneumatic controller unit.
- The drier is not designed for filling the system with air via the electropneumatic controller unit.
