The following operation steps are shown on model 167 at the left rear wheel arch and must be similarly performed on other component parts (e. g. at front fender, doors, flaps).
Remove
- Drill out respective fusible plug (1) on right and left on inside with Ø 5 mm (arrows).
The catch tabs (2) are removed during drilling.
- Heat fusible plug (1) to min. 100°C.
The temperature must not exceed 150°C.
Paint damage will occur otherwise.
Check the temperature with an infrared thermometer.
- Remove fusible plug (1) using
extraction hooks (3).
Make sure that the points of the
extraction hooks (3) are pointing inward (arrows).
- Remove adhesive residues with a
long wedge (4).
- Clean contact surfaces.
Observe air drying time for cleaning agent.
- Repair any paint damage (arrow).
If installed.
Install
- Heat new fusible plug (1) with heat gun to activation temperature of min. 130°C up to max. 185°C.
Check the temperature with an infrared thermometer.
The sealant on the fusible plug (1) swells.
- Insert new fusible plug (1) using suitable needle nose pliers (5) and press on.
- Replace seam seal on inside of wheel arch.
If installed.
