Structure
Two-piece brake disk without fasteners, consisting of brake plate (1) and steel metal casing (2).
Corrosion protection
- The steel metal casing (2) is galvanized with a zinc nickel coating.
- The gearing area is painted with zinc dust paint.
- The composite brake disk is also painted with zinc dust paint (exception: hub contact surface).
Handling the composite brake disk
- For wheel combination components (wheel, compound brake disk, wheel hub), it must be ensured that the vehicle-specific rated torque is first reached in step 3.
- The composite brake disk must be corrosion free (dry storage etc.).
- Damage to the paint and coating of the composite brake disk is not permitted.
- Prevent brake disk from coming into contact with aggressive media (e.g. acids) (exception: Wheel cleaners approved by Mercedes-Benz).
- The steel metal casing base (wheel and hub contact surface) as well as the corresponding contact components (wheel and hub) must be free of soiling and corrosion before assembly.
- Do not apply axial forces at steel metal casing/brake plate circumference.
- Do not apply lateral forces (parallel to rotational axis) (e.g. fastening through safety screw only).
- The composite brake disk may only be handled on the brake plate (1) and not the steel metal casing (2).
- Do not use compound brake disks anymore after a shock, impact or after being dropped.
- Do not detach steel metal casing (2) from brake plate (1).
Avoid any metallic impacts (risk of damaging corrosion protection)
Avoid any shocks, impacts to the brake plate (e.g. on mount carrier) or use installed disk as padding/supporting surface (e.g. for steering knuckle)
Avoid steering knuckle turning against steering resistance through composite brake disk pressure
