Rear Shock Absorber Strut Tower Removal (Model 167.3) - Ar64.20-P-1160-01MEC

The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Expose self-piercing rivetings on the load compartment floor crossmember (2) and drill through with a diameter of 6 mm (areas A).
- Expose spot welds on the load compartment floor crossmember (2) and cut off (areas B).

- Heat up load compartment floor crossmember (2) in the cross-hatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove load compartment floor crossmember (2).
- Mark separating point on inner rear longitudinal member (4) and cut (area C).
Do not cut too deeply. Otherwise the components behind can be damaged and weakened.
c1 = approx. 15 mm
c2 = approx. 30 mm
- Expose weld seam on inner rear longitudinal member (4) and cut (area D).
- Expose spot welds on rear seat belt retractor mounting support (3) and cut off (areas E).
- Heat up rear seat belt retractor mounting support (3) in the cross-hatched area.
- Remove rear seat belt retractor mounting support (3).
- Expose self-piercing rivetings on the shock-absorber strut tower (1) and drill through with a diameter of 6 mm (areas F).
- Heat damper strut dome (1) in crosshatched areas.
- Remove damper strut dome (1).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to mating surfaces in cross-hatched areas.
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
