Upper Front Longitudinal Member Preparation - Ar62.20-P-1286-02ME

Model 167 

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle on model 167.1. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Mark separating point on top inner longitudinal member (1) and cut (area A).

    IMPORTANT Transfer separation point from vehicle.

  2. Grind mating surfaces on top inner longitudinal member (1) down to bare metal in the cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  3. Remove grinding dust.
  4. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas B).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  5. Mark separating point on top front longitudinal member (5) and cut (area C).

    IMPORTANT Transfer separation point from vehicle.

  6. Grind mating surfaces on top front longitudinal member (5) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

    Grind mating surface down to bare metal from the rear (area D).

  7. Remove grinding dust.
  8. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas H).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  9. Mark separating point on the mounting support (6) and cut (area K).

    IMPORTANT Transfer separation point from vehicle.

  10. Grind mating surfaces on mounting support (6) down to bare metal in the cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Grind spot weld flange down to bare metal.

  11. Remove grinding dust.
  12. Apply zinc dust paint to the insides of the spot weld flange.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (area L).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe preliminary treatment of bonding surface.

  13. Grind mating surfaces on the striker plates (2, 4) down to bare metal in the cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  14. Remove grinding dust.
  15. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

  16. Mark separating point on the strut (3) and cut (area E).

    IMPORTANT Transfer separation point from vehicle.

  17. Grind strut (3) in the cross-hatched areas down to bare metal.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

    Grind mating surface on the inside down to bare metal (areas G).

  18. Remove grinding dust.
  19. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Bonding surfaces must not be coated with zinc dust paint (areas F, G). Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
