General 

Various control units and actuators are networked with the rear signal acquisition and actuation module. The rear signal acquisition and actuation module is connected to the network architecture of the vehicle. It controls various functions.

The rear signal acquisition and actuation module is located behind the trim on the side in the trunk.

Function 

The rear signal acquisition and actuation module processes the signals from various sensors and actuates, among other things, the following:

• Rear area exterior lights
• Heated rear window
• Windshield wiper system on liftgate
• Lighting of various control elements in rear passenger compartment, trunk/load compartment
• Trunk/load compartment lighting
• Fuel filler cap, trunk lid or liftgate central locking system
• Seat heating in rear passenger compartment (vehicles with seat heating in rear passenger compartment, depending on Model)
• Armrest heating (vehicles with armrest heating, depending on Model)
• Camera cover for camera in rear end (vehicles with parking system)
• Roller sunblind (vehicles with roller sunblind on rear window or side window)
• Rear seat belt buckle lamp (depending on Model)

To implement these functions, the signal acquisition and actuation module processes, among other things, the following information:

• Terminal status of terminal 15
• Vehicle speed
• Operating requests
• Central locking system status information
• Engine management, drivetrain status information
• Brake system status information
• Reverse gear recognition status information
• PRE-SAFE® status information (vehicles with PRE-SAFE occupant protection system)
• Seat belt status information
• Information on a crash event
• System requirements, e.g. to switch on exterior lighting in rear area
