MODIFICATION NOTES

28.06.2022 Note adapted.

General

The HANDS-FREE ACCESS function makes it possible to open, stop or close the trunk lid without touching it. Sensors located under the bumper enable this by registering a specific foot movement which is then forwarded to the KEYLESS-GO control unit via the rear switch module.

When working in the area of the trunk it should be noted that unintended trunk lid opening or closing  may occur, if the transmitter key is in the vicinity of the vehicle. This can also apply to work conducted on vehicle lifts, as well as pits, triggered by people located below the vehicle.

Measures for activities

Before starting any work in the rear area, make sure that the transmitter key is inserted into the electronic ignition lock (EZS), or stored in the marked stowage compartment for emergency operation mode on vehicles with Keyless-start. If the transmitter key is not in the vehicle, make sure that it is stored outside the KEYLESS-GO transmitter range. This prevents any unwanted HANDS-FREE ACCESS (HFA) function activation (trunk lid opening or trunk lid closing).
