IMPORTANT The following special tool is required: SPECIAL TOOL insertion tool (02)

IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL The insertion tool (02) includes insertion tool (01).

  1. Clean and degrease crankcase (3) and oil pan (4) in the area of the applied sealant as well as contact surface on the crankshaft flange.

IMPORTANT The crankshaft radial sealing ring (6) is vulcanized into the end cover (5) and can only, therefore, be replaced together with the end cover (5). Do not reuse the end cover (5) with the rear crankshaft radial sealing ring (6) after removal. The crankshaft radial sealing ring (6) is fitted with both a sealing lip and a protective lip. The sealing lip, protective lip and contact surface on the crankshaft flange must not be oiled for assembly.

  2. Clean and degrease sealing surface of new end cover (5).
  3. Apply sealant in the form of a bead with a height and width of 2.0 mm (±0.5 mm) to cylinder crankcase (3) and oil pan (4).

IMPORTANT Use exclusively approved sealants. Do not spread bead.

Mount end cover (5) within 5 minutes after applying sealant.

  4. Mount end cover (5) with crankshaft radial sealing ring (6) on insertion tool (02).

NOTES Make sure that the protective lip faces in the direction of the transmission housing and the sealing lip faces in the direction of the cylinder crankcase (3). Leakage could occur otherwise at rear crankshaft radial sealing ring (6).

  5. Detach insertion tool (01) from insertion tool (02).
  6. Mount end cover (5) with crankshaft radial sealing ring (6) and insertion tool (02) onto contact surface (7a) on crankshaft flange (7).

NOTES The contact surface (7a) must not be removed with coarse abrasive cloth. This destroys the surface of the crankshaft and the crankshaft will be unusable.

  7. Tighten screw/bolts (5a) gradually via the cross. Observe tightening torque.
  8. Detach insertion tool (02) from crankshaft flange (7).
  9. Raise protective lip carefully and check for correct installation position of the sealing lip.

NOTES The sealing lip must point towards the cylinder crankcase (3) all around its circumference.

A wrong installation position leads to leakage.

  10. Check for correct installation position of the protective lip.

NOTES The protective lip must point over the whole circumference to the transmission housing.

An incorrect installation position leads to premature wear of crankshaft radial sealing ring (6).
