Remove/Install Front Axle Differential Propeller Shaft - AR41.10-P-0070LW

Deburr repair panels.		 AS00.00-Z-0017-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Put transmission into neutral position.    
2 Release parking brake.    
3.1 Remove diesel particulate filter. Model 253 with engine 642 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

3.2 Remove the catalytic converter. Model 253 with engine 264 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

3.3 Remove right catalytic converter. Model 253 with engine 276.8 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR49.10-P-5503MMV
3.4 Release right catalytic converter. Model 253 with engine 177 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR49.20-P-0102MNG
3.5 Remove exhaust system. Model 253 with engine 654 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

4 Remove heat shield (2).    
5 Remove bracket of heat shield (2).    
6 Remove right holder of lower rear engine compartment lining.    
7 Remove heat shield from transmission.   AR27.40-P-0700-01LF
8 Operate service brake and remove bolts (3). NOTES Do not counterhold the propeller shaft (1) at the universal joint.
Otherwise the needle roller bearings and seals of the propeller shaft (1) will be damaged.
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.		  
9 Release wiring harness for crankshaft position sensor/engine oil fill level sensor from oil pan. Model 253 with engine 177 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)  
10 Remove bolts (5) and slide retaining plate (4) onto propeller shaft (1). With VAG 175  
11 Remove holder of lambda sensor plugs behind right catalytic converter. Model 253 with engine 177 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)  
12 Remove rear propeller shaft from output flange of transfer case (9), slide backward and shim. Model 253 with engine 264 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR41.10-P-0040-01LW 
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS Drift for releasing the fitting sleeves in the flexible couplings   WF58.50-P-4110-01A

13 Unscrew screws of rear engine carrier at underbody and lower transmission far enough to enable the propeller shaft (1) to be removed. Model 253 with engine 264 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR22.10-P-4360LWB
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
14 Remove propeller shaft (1) from front axle differential.    
15 Pull propeller shaft (1) off splined profile (8) on transfer case (9).    
16 Remove propeller shaft (1) downwards.    
17 Check sealing bellows (6) for damage. If the sealing bellows (6) is damaged.
↓
Install new seal bellows (6).		 AR41.10-P-0070-01A 
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS   Long-life grease (NLGI grade 2) BB00.40-P-0266-02A
INSTALLING Install     
18 Grease splined profile (8). Klueber Microlube GNY 202 *BR00.45-Z-1071-06A 
19 Attach propeller shaft (1) to splined profile (8) of transfer case (9). IMPORTANT The marking (arrow) on the splined profile (8) must line up exactly with the marking (arrow) on the propeller shaft (1).  
20 Lift transmission and screw in screws of rear engine carrier at underbody. Model 253 with engine 264 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR22.10-P-4360LWB

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
21 Attach rear propeller shaft at output flange of transfer case (9). Model 253 with engine 264 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR41.10-P-0040-01LW 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Flex disk or joint flange at transmission/rear axle differential or propeller shaft *BA41.10-P-1001-01L

22 Attach holder of lambda sensor plugs behind right catalytic converter. Model 253 with engine 177 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
TORQUE SPECIFICATION M6		 *BA00.10-P-1002-01A 
23 Position propeller shaft (1) on front axle differential.    
24 Position retaining plate (4) on front axle differential and screw in screws (5). With VAG 175
IMPORTANT Replace screw/bolts (5).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Collar bolt, retaining plate to front axle differential		 *BA33.30-P-1004-03G 
25 Attach wiring harness for crankshaft position sensor/engine oil fill level sensor to oil pan. Model 253 with engine 177 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)  
26 Operate service brake and screw in screws (3). NOTES Do not counterhold the propeller shaft (1) at the universal joint.
Otherwise the needle roller bearings and seals of the propeller shaft (1) will be damaged.
IMPORTANT Replace screws/bolts (3).
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.		  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, propeller shaft to front axle gear *BA33.30-P-1012-03G 
27 Install heat shield on transmission.   AR27.40-P-0700-01LF
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 253 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) Screw/bolt, heat shield to oil pan *BA27.10-P-1009-04H 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 253 with transmission 724.2 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) Bolt, heat shield to sprag *BA27.10-P-1013-04G 
28 Install right holder of lower rear engine compartment lining.    
29 Install bracket of heat shield (2). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Collar bolt, holder for heat shield to transmission/holder for exhaust system *BA33.30-P-1010-03G 
30 Install heat shield (2). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Collar bolt, heat shield to holder of heat shield/retaining plate/front axle differential *BA33.30-P-1009-03G 
31.1 Fasten right catalytic converter. Model 253 with engine 177 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR49.20-P-0102MNG
31.2 Install right catalytic converter. Model 253 with engine 276.8 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR49.10-P-5503MMV
31.3 Install catalytic converter. Model 253 with engine 264 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

31.4 Install diesel particulate filter. Model 253 with engine 642 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
