REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Open hood.    
2 Disconnect ground line from battery. Model 293 with code U60 (Active Bonnet (Pedestrian protection)) AR54.10-P-0003EQ
    Model 205 with code U60 (Active Bonnet (Pedestrian protection))
Model 253 with code U60 (Active Bonnet (Pedestrian protection))

3 Mask off left front fender (11), right front fender (12) and lamp units in area of bumper (1) using suitable tape.    
4 Remove Mercedes star. Model 205 with code 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS)
Model 205 with code 239 (Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC)

5.1 Remove front engine compartment lining and center engine compartment lining. Model 205 AR61.20-P-1105LW
5.2 Detach front engine compartment lining in area of bumper (1). Model 253

6 Remove outside temperature sensor (17). Model 205  
7 Unscrew bolts (2). Model 205  
8 Remove expansion rivets (3) from left front fender liner (4) and right front fender liner (5). SPECIAL TOOL Dismantling tool Fig 3
9 Press left front fender liner (4) and right front fender liner (5) to side and remove screws (6). SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 4
10 Detach protective strips in area of bumper (1) on right and left. NOTES Carefully detach protective strips.
Otherwise, the protective strips can be damaged.
 
11 Disengage bumper (1) from left front fender (11) and right front fender (12).    
12 Detach electrical connector (7).    
13 Detach electrical connection (9). Model 205, 253, 293 with code 501 (360° camera)  
14 Disconnect electrical connector (10). Model 205, 253 with code 5U3 (AIRPANEL)  
15 Remove screws from left lamp unit and right lamp unit. Model 253

    IMPORTANTInstallation:  Observe gaps.

16 Remove bolts (13). IMPORTANT Model
205.064/086/087/088/089/264/286/287/288/28 9/364/386/387/388/389/464/486/487/489 Remove five screws (13).
IMPORTANT Model 253
Remove three retaining clips instead of the three screws (13) in the center.
 
17 Release bumper (1) from arrests (14). Model 205  
    IMPORTANTInstallation:  Observe gaps.

    Protrusion of radiator trim/soft nose, engine hood *BE60.00-P-1004-01BB

18 Remove bumper (1). NOTES Installation:
Model 205, 253, 293 with code 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS)
Model 205, 253, 293 with code 239 (Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC)
Ensure that the air deflector (15) is located below the radar sensor (16).
Otherwise the driver assistance system can fail.
 
    IMPORTANT Model 205
Installation: Observe gap dimension.

INSPECT Check     
19 Check impact absorber for damage.    
Topical note  General information on the impact absorber If damage is present,

Replace impact absorber.

20 Check pedestrian protection sensor (8) for any type of damage. Model 205, 253, 293 with code U60 (Active Bonnet (Pedestrian protection))

If damage is present,

Replace pedestrian protection sensor (8).

21 Install in the reverse order.    
  Calibrate     
22 Calibrate 360° camera with diagnosis system.
