Modification notes
| 19.12.2018 | Document revised, adapted to as-built configuration of replacement part, rivets for positioning spring mount on longitudinal member replaced with high-strength rivets. |
The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Grind mating surfaces at longitudinal member (2) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flange down to bare metal on both sides (area A).
Observe preliminary treatment of bonding surface.
- Remove grinding dust.
- Drill rivet holes on spring mount (2.1) with a diameter of 6.7 mm (areas A1 ).
- Drill off rivets on spring mount (2.1) with a 6.5 mm diameter bit (areas A2 ).
- Remove spring mount (2.1).
- Grind mating surfaces on longitudinal member (2) and spring mount (2.1) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind mating surfaces on spring mount (2.1) down to bare metal on the inside (areas A3 ).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
- Remove grinding dust.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to longitudinal member (2) in cross-hatched areas.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Rivet spring mount (2.1) with 6.5x12.5 diameter rivets (areas A4
).
- Mark and cut separating point at left rear-end floor (1) (area B).
Transfer separation point from vehicle.
- Grind mating surfaces at left rear-end floor (1) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Observe preliminary treatment of bonding surface.
- Grind mating surfaces at left rear-end floor (1) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides (areas C1 and C2 ).
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges (areas C1
and C2
).
