IMPORTANT The following special tools are required: SPECIAL TOOL clamping plate, SPECIAL TOOL adapter plate, SPECIAL TOOL cover, SPECIAL TOOL clamping plate, SPECIAL TOOL adapter plate, SPECIAL TOOL socket set, SPECIAL TOOL tensioning device.

IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL Clamping plate contains: Clamping wedges (01), upper clamping plate (04), clamp screws (2), screws (3).

IMPORTANT The clamping wedges (01, 02) must be attached to avoid unintended twisting of the front axle spring (1).

  1. Attach clamping wedge (01) and spacer ring (03) to upper clamping plate (04) using screws (3).

IMPORTANT Clamping wedge (01) must be positioned in bore 09 and 17 relative to upper clamping plate (04).

  2. Attach protective mat (08) to lower clamping plate (05).
  3. Attach protective mat (08) with lower clamping plate (05) to tensioning device (06) and move into assembly position.
  4. Insert suspension strut (40) into upper clamping plate (04) and lower clamping plate (05).

IMPORTANT Insert the suspension strut (40) by turning between the upper clamping plate (04) and the lower clamping plate (05).

  5. Align head bearing (7) to spacer ring (03) and adjust tensioning device (06) to positioning dimension "L4" (insert position).

IMPORTANT The head bearing (7) only fits in one position into the spacer ring (03).

  6. Secure clamping wedge (02) with clamp screws (2) to clamping wedge (01).

IMPORTANT Tighten clamp bolts (2) by hand until the clamping device (02) lies against the front axle spring (1).

  7. Twist front axle spring (1) so that the start of the spring coil reaches positioning dimension "H" (arrow).
  8. Tension front axle spring (1) until positioning dimension "L5" is reached.
  9. Tighten clamp bolts (2).

NOTES Always observe reference value of 5 Nm.

Otherwise, the thrust bearing (5) may be damaged or the front axle spring (1) may become twisted during clamping.

  10. Tension front axle spring (1) using tensioning device (06) until positioning dimension "L3" is reached.
  11. Counterhold piston rod and unscrew nut from piston rod TORQUE SPECIFICATION .

IMPORTANT Counterhold piston rod with spline EV210. Replace nut.

  12. Extend shock absorber (6).
  13. Bring tensioning device (06) into positioning dimension "L1".
  14. Remove clamping wedge (02).
  15. Remove front axle spring (1) and head bearing (7).

If the head bearing (7) is damaged,

    replace head bearing (7).
