IMPORTANT The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Install rear fender (1) and fit.
  2. Install trunk lid.
  3. Install rear bumper.
  4. Install left rear lamp.
  5. Install door seal.
  6. Install lock striker.
  7. Check gap dimensions with SPECIAL TOOL feeler gauge and adjust.
  8. Fix rear fender (1) in place.
  9. Remove lock striker.
  10. Remove door seal.
  11. Remove left rear lamp.
  12. Remove rear bumper.
  13. Remove trunk lid.
  14. Drill rivet holes on rear fender (1) with a Ø 6.7 mm bit (areas A1 and A2 ).

  15. Remove rear fender (1).
  16. Deburr rivet holes in rear fender (1) and body on both sides.
  17. Remove drill chips.
  18. Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.
  19. Apply sealant to foam part in cross-hatched area (area B1 ).
  20. Sealant to body in cross-hatched area (area B2 ).

    IMPORTANT Observe processing specification of the sealant.

  21. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched area (area C).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces. Observe manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of adhesive.

  22. Install rear fender (1) and fix in place.
  23. Rivet rear fender (1) with Ø 6.5x12, 5 mm rivets (areas D1 and D2 ).

    IMPORTANT Clamping range is between 2 mm and 5 mm.

  24. Rear fender (1) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas E1 , E2 , E 3 E4 , E5 , E6 and E7 ).
  25. Rear fender (1) SHIELDED GAS PLUG WELD (area F).
  26. Rear fender (1) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (areas H1 , H2 and H 3 ).

    IMPORTANT Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.

  27. Surface grind inert gas weld joints (areas H1 , H2 and H3 ).
  28. Tin-plate surfaces on rear fender (1) with body solder or use basic body filler to spackle them and grind them off (areas H1 , H2 and H 3 ).
  29. Remove solder residues or grinding dust.
