The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage, these steps must be similarly performed on the right side of the vehicle.
The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Mark separating points on the rear fender (1) and cut (areas A, B and C).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Mark separating point along the Y-markings (areas B and C).
The Y-marking is designed as a half-round disengagement shift tube in the are of the side window.
- Expose spot welds on the rear fender (1) and cut out (areas D1 , D 2 , E 1 , E2 , and F).
- Disconnect adhesive bead between the rear outer wheel well and the rear fender (1).
The rear fender is bonded to the outer rear wheel well (1).
- Expose spot welds on the rear fender (1) and cut off (areas G1
, G2
, G3
).
- Heat rear fender (1) in cross-hatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove rear fender (1).
- Remove remaining adhesive material in the outer rear wheel well area and detach loose adhesive material.
The height of the remaining adhesive should be max. 2 mm.
- Repair bare spots in the outer rear wheel well area with primer stick (area H2 ).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on insides.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges. onto connecting flanges that are no longer accessible after installing side roof paneling.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas H1 and H 2 ).
Otherwise adhesion problems can occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
