Move Rear Axle Brake Pads Into Assembly Position - AR42.10-P-1710-02MFA

Model 118, 177, 243, 247

Move to assembly position (via the workshop menu in the head unit/instrument cluster display cluster (A40/16)) 

IMPORTANT

The location of the steering wheel buttons varies depending on the vehicle equipment.

  1. Switch on ignition.

    IMPORTANT

    Switch on ignition position 2.

    IMPORTANT

    Allow day and kilometer reading to be displayed in "Trip" menu item.

  2. Close hood.

    If the display shows the "Hood open" message.

  3. Release parking brake via exterior lighting and electric parking brake switch group (S1/2).

    IMPORTANT

    The parking brake must be released when the assembly position is adopted.

  4. Switch off ignition.
  5. Switch on ignition.

    IMPORTANT

    Switch on ignition position 1.

  6. Press Home button (S163/1s21) in instrument cluster multifunction steering wheel button group (S163/1).
  7. Use the instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) to select the menu item "Trip".
  8. Press instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) to confirm.
  9. Press Back button (1) and instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) together and hold down for 5 s.
  10. Press Home button (S163/1s21) in instrument cluster multifunction steering wheel button group (S163/1).
  11. Use the instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) to select the menu item "Workshop".
  12. Press instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) to confirm.

    IMPORTANT

    The workshop menu with "Vehicle data", "Roller test", "Brake lining change", and "ASSYST PLUS" panels appears in the display.

  13. Use instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) to select menu item "Brakepad replacement".
  14. Press instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) to confirm.

    IMPORTANT

    The display shows the message "Move to assembly position".

  15. Press instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) to confirm.

    NOTES Do not depress the service brake during "Move to assembly position".

    Otherwise, the spindle in the brake caliper can be damaged.

    IMPORTANT

    The display shows the message "Assembly position reached".

  16. Switch off ignition.

    IMPORTANT

    This prevents the assembly position from being exited unintentionally.

    Exit assembly position (via the workshop menu in the instrument cluster) 

    NOTES

    Leave the assembly position only with the brakepads fitted and the brake caliper installed.

    Otherwise the brake piston will be pushed out of the brake caliper.

  17. Switch on ignition.

    IMPORTANT

    Switch on ignition position 1.

  18. Use the instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) to select the menu item "Workshop".
  19. Press instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) to confirm.

    IMPORTANT

    The display shows the message "Assembly position reached, leave assembly position".

  20. Press instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) to confirm.

    IMPORTANT

    While the assembly position is being left, the display shows the message "Leaving assembly position". When the process has finished, the display shows the message "Assembly position left".

  21. Use the instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10) and the Home button (S163/1s21) to exit the Workshop menu.
  22. Switch off ignition.
