IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

Refer to the superordinate service document for further information.

Observe safety information in the superordinate service document.

The graphics show the vehicle from the mechanic's perspective. At the same time, this perspective also specifies the direction in which the rivets must be placed.

  1. Install rear fender (1) and fit.
  2. Install trunk lid.
  3. Install rear bumper.
  4. Install rear lamp.
  5. Install door seal.
  6. Install lock striker.
  7. Check gaps using SPECIAL TOOL feeler gauge and adjust. HAND-HELD TESTERHAND-HELD TESTERHAND-HELD TESTERHAND-HELD TESTERHAND-HELD TESTERHAND-HELD TESTERHAND-HELD TESTERHAND-HELD TESTERHAND-HELD TESTER
  8. Fasten rear fender (1).
  9. Remove striker eye.
  10. Remove door seal.
  11. Remove taillamp.
  12. Remove rear bumper.
  13. Remove trunk lid.
  14. Drill rivet holes in rear fender (1) with ø 6.7 mm (areas A1 and A2 ).
  15. Remove rear fender (1).
  16. Deburr rivet holes on rear fender (1) and body on both sides.
  17. Remove drilling chips.
  18. Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.

  19. Apply sealant to the foam part in the cross-hatched area (area B1 ).
  20. Apply sealant to the body in the cross-hatched area (area B2 ).

    IMPORTANT Observe processing specification of the sealant.

  21. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched area (area C).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces. Observe manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of adhesive.

  22. Install and fasten rear fender (1).
  23. Rivet rear fender (1) with rivets Y2 (6.5x12.5 mm) (areas D1 and D2 ).

    IMPORTANT Clamping range is between 2 mm and 5 mm.

  24. Rear fender (1) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas E1 , E2 , E3 E4 , E5 , E6 and E7 ).
  25. Rear fender (1) SHIELDED GAS PLUG WELD (area F).

  26. Rear fender (1) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (areas H1 , H2 and H3 ).

    IMPORTANT Perform shielding gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.

  27. Surface grind shielding gas weld joints (areas H1 , H2 and H3 ).
  28. Tin-plate the surfaces on the rear fender (1) with body solder or seal and grind down the basic body filler (areas H1 , H2 and H3 ).
  29. Remove solder residues or grinding dust.
