1. Place joint housing (9) with drive shaft onto steering knuckle.

   The steering knuckle bearing setting is dependent on the vehicle model involved.

   For the version with adjusting plates (8) do not use any shims (7) for the setting and vice versa.

   • Model 460:

     Adjustment by means of adjusting plates at top and bottom.

   • Model 461 except model

     461.302/305/331/332/333/339/340/342/343/345/392:

     Adjustment by means of adjusting plates at top and shims at bottom.

   • Model 461.302/305/331/332/333/339/340/342/343/345/392, model 463:

     Adjustment by means of shims at top and bottom.

2. Model 460

   Model 461 (except 461.302/305/331/332/333/339/340/342/343/345/392)

   Model 463

   up to model year 2013

   Slide 2 mm wide adjusting ring (1) onto upper kingpin (5).

3. Install upper kingpin (5) without adjustment plates or shims.
4. Slide 6 mm wide adjusting ring (3) and 4 mm wide adjusting ring (4) onto lower kingpin (6).

   Note model year dependent change in diameter of lower kingpin (6) and 6 mm wide adjusting ring (3).

   The lower kingpin (6) has an interference fit on the last 5 mm. The steering control arm is fixed in the joint housing by pilot bushings with lengths of 5 mm. Slide a 6 mm wide adjusting ring (3) onto lower kingpin (6) so that the measurement is not distorted by jamming. The 4 mm wide adjusting ring (4) is used to facilitate measuring distance B (B) with a feeler gauge.

5. Install steering control arm without adjustment plates or shims.
6. Mount C-clamp and close far enough until no more play is registered in the steering knuckle bearing.

   In doing so move the joint housing to and fro so that the bearing can settle.

7. Measure distance A (A) and distance B (B) using feeler gauge.

   Supplementary dimension C is the difference of the adjusting rings plus the pretension.

   Model 461 (except 461.302/305/331/332/333/339/340/342/343/345/392)

   Model 463

   up to model year 2013

   Determine thickness of adjusting plates at top of steering knuckle.

   Example:

   Distance A (A) 0.95 mm

   - Preload - 0.15 mm

   = Thickness of adjustment plates = 0.80 mm

2. 8.2 Model 461 (except 461.302/305/331/332/333/339/340/342/343/345/392)

   Model 463

   up to model year 2013

   Determine thickness of shims at top of steering knuckle.

   Example:

   Supplementary dimension C 2.15 mm

   - Distance A (A) - 1.30 mm

   = Thickness of shims = 0.85 mm

3. 9.1 Model 460

   Determine thickness of adjusting plates at bottom of steering knuckle.

   Example:

   Distance B (B) 2.90 mm

   - Preload - 2.15 mm

   = Thickness of adjustment plates = 0.80 mm

4. 9.2 Model 461 (except 461.339)

   Model 463

   up to model year 2013

   Determine thickness of shims at bottom of steering knuckle.

   Example:

   Supplementary dimension C 2.15 mm

   - Distance B (B) - 1.10 mm

   = Thickness of shims = 1.05 mm
