Screw measuring tool (5) on bracket (6) of the clamping device for poly-V belt on the alternator.
The measuring tool (5) must point to the marking (1); this represents 400 CKA after ignition TDC of cylinder 1.
Engine 176 in model 463
Engine 177 in model 205
Use pointer 177 589 01 21 01 from the
measuring tool (5).
Engine 178 in model 190
Use pointer 177 589 01 21 02 from the
measuring tool (5).
- Turn crankshaft with
socket on the center bolt of the belt pulley in direction of engine rotation until the
measuring tool (5) stands on the marking (4).
The crankshaft must never be turned against the direction of engine rotation.
Engine damage will occur otherwise.
The marking (4) represents a 530 CKA after ignition TDC of cylinder 1.
- Check positions of the segmented discs (8, 9, 10, 11) through the openings of the position sensors of the camshafts.
About 50% of all four segmented disc (8, 9, 10, 11) should be visible.
Not all four segmented disc (8, 9, 10, 11) are about 50% visible.
Turn crankshaft with
socket on the center bolt of the belt pulley in direction of engine rotation until the
measuring tool (5) stands on the marking (4).
The marking (4) represents a 530 CKA after ignition TDC of cylinder 1.
About 50% of all four segmented disc (8, 9, 10, 11) should now be visible.
- Turn crankshaft with
socket on the center bolt of the belt pulley in direction of engine rotation until the
measuring tool (5) stands on the marking (1).
The crankshaft must never be turned against the direction of engine rotation.
Engine damage will occur otherwise.
The marking (1) represents a 400 CKA after ignition TDC of cylinder 1.
In this position the secondary chain tensioner of the left cylinder bank must be installed.
If the crankshaft was turned too far
Turn crankshaft with
socket at the center bolt of the belt pulley in direction of engine rotation by about two revolutions until the
measuring tool (5) stands on the marking (1).
The marking (1) represents a 40° CKA after ignition TDC of cylinder 1.
- Turn crankshaft with
socket on the center bolt of the belt pulley further in direction of engine rotation until the
measuring tool (5) stands on the marking (2).
The crankshaft must never be turned against the direction of engine rotation.
Engine damage will occur otherwise.
The marking (2) represents a 90° CKA after ignition TDC of cylinder 1.
In this position the secondary chain tensioner of the right cylinder bank must be removed.
If the crankshaft was turned too far.
Turn crankshaft with
socket at the center bolt of the belt pulley in direction of engine rotation by about two revolutions until the
measuring tool (5) stands on the marking (1).
The marking (1) represents a 40° CKA after ignition TDC of cylinder 1.
- Turn crankshaft with
socket on the center bolt of the belt pulley further in direction of engine rotation until the
measuring tool (5) stands on the marking (3).
The crankshaft must never be turned against the direction of engine rotation.
Engine damage will occur otherwise.
The marking (3) represents a 235° CKA after ignition TDC.
In this position the primary chain tensioner must be removed.
If the crankshaft was turned too far.
Turn crankshaft with
socket at the center bolt of the belt pulley in direction of engine rotation by about two revolutions until the
measuring tool (5) stands on the marking (1).
The marking (1) represents a 400 CKA after ignition TDC of cylinder 1.
- Turn crankshaft with
socket on the center bolt of the belt pulley further by about one and a half revolutions in direction of engine rotation until the
measuring tool (5) stands on the marking (4).
The marking (4) represents a 530 CKA after ignition TDC of cylinder 1.
