Location 

The Audio/COMAND control panel is located on the center console.

Tasks 

The Audio/COMAND control panel is the central control for the telematics functions. With the Audio/COMAND control panel, the functions that can be displayed on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) can be operated. In the process, the Audio/COMAND control panel performs the following tasks individually:

• Receiving signals 
• Evaluation of input factors 
• Sending signals 

Receiving signals 

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

• Lower control panel LIN (LIN A3) 
• Telematics CAN (CAN A) 

LCP LIN 

The Audio/COMAND control panel control unit also receives the following information over the LCP-LIN:

• Control signals of left lower control panel (N72/4)
• Control signals of right lower control panel (N72/5)

Telematics CAN 

The Audio/COMAND control panel control unit also receives the following information over the telematics CAN:

• Circuit status
• Transport mode status
• Engine running status
• Request to switch on respective LED in the left lower control panel or right lower control panel buttons
• Symbol lighting request
• Status of circuit 58d

Evaluation of input factors 

The integrated microprocessor evaluates the input factors read in.

Sending signals 

The initial parameters are transmitted over the following connections:

• LCP LIN 
• Telematics CAN 

LCP LIN 

The Audio/COMAND control panel also sends the following signals

over the LCP-LIN:

• Circuit status
• Request to switch on respective LED in the left lower control panel or right lower control panel buttons
• Symbol lighting request

Telematics CAN 

The Audio/COMAND control panel also sends the following signals over the telematics CAN:

• Control signals of left lower control panel
• Control signals of right lower control panel
• Control signals from Audio/COMAND controller
• Status of audio/COMAND controller
• Status of "Back" button
• Status of Home and Favorites button
