The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service information as well as the safety information in the service information must be observed.
- Mark separating points on rear fender (1) and cut (areas A, B, C).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Mark separating point along the embossment (area A).
Mark separating points along the Y-markings (areas B, C).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas D).
Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas E).
Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.
- Heat rear fender (1) in crosshatched areas.
- Remove rear fender (1).
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Areas of the plug welds and bonding surface may not be coated with zinc dust paint (areas F, G). Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
