Preparing D-Pillar For Installation - Ar63.20-P-2000-02XG

Model 463 

as of model year 2019 

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

The higher-level service information as well as the safety information in the service information must be observed.

  1. Mark separating points on inner side wall (1) and cut (areas A).

    IMPORTANT

    Transfer separation points from vehicle.

  2. Grind mating surfaces on inner side wall (1) down to bare metal in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  3. Remove grinding dust.
  4. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

  5. Mark separating points on D-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (areas B).

    IMPORTANT Transfer separation points from vehicle.

  6. Grind mating surfaces on D-pillar reinforcement (2) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  7. Remove grinding dust.
  8. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

  9. Mark separating point on outer D-pillar (3) and cut (area C).

    IMPORTANT Transfer separation point from vehicle.

  10. Grind mating surfaces on outer D-pillar (3) down to bare metal in the cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  11. Remove grinding dust.
  12. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Areas of the plug welds and bonding surfaces may not be coated with zinc dust paint (areas D, E). Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
