The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service information as well as the safety information in the service information must be observed.
- Install rear fender (1) and fit.
- Install rear bumper.
- Install taillamp.
- Install rear-end door.
Only when installing new left rear fender (1).
- Install seal of the rear door.
- Install lock striker of the rear door.
- Check gaps using
feeler gauge and adjust.
- Fix rear fender (1) in place.
- Remove lock striker of the rear door.
- Remove seal of the rear door.
- Remove rear-end door.
Only when installing new left rear fender (1).
- Remove taillamp.
- Remove rear bumper.
- Drill rivet holes on rear fender (1) with a diameter of 6.7 mm and countersink (area A).
- Remove rear fender (1).
- Deburr rivet holes on rear fender (1) and body on both sides.
- Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint (area A).
- Apply sealant to the body and to the foam part (areas B).
- Apply 2-component adhesive to the body (area C) in the cross-hatched area.
- Install rear fender (1) and fix in place.

- Surface grind inert gas weld joints (area E).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Rear fender (1)

- Surface grind inert gas weld joints (area F).
- Rivet rear fender (1) with countersunk head rivets (area J) with a diameter of 6.4 x 14.0.
- Rear fender (1)

- Rear fender (1)
(areas G).
Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.
- Grind inert gas weld joints down flat (areas G).
- Solder surfaces on rear fender (1) with body solder and smooth (areas G).
A basic body filler can also be used as an alternative to the restoration of the surfaces with body solder.
- Remove solder residues and grinding dust.
