The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service information as well as the safety information in the service information must be observed.
- Install, fit, and fix in place D-pillar reinforcement (2) and outer D-pillar (3) with the
side portal frame and portal straightener.
Use spacers.
- Drill rivet holes on outer D-pillar (3) with a diameter of 6.7 mm through the existing holes in the body (area B
- Drill rivet holes on D-pillar reinforcement (2) and outer D-pillar (3) with a diameter of 6.7 mm (area B2).
- Drill outer D-pillar (3) with a diameter of 6.0 mm one panel thickness for plug welds (areas A).
- Remove portal straightener, D-pillar reinforcement (2), and outer D-pillar (3).
- Deburr rivet holes on D-pillar reinforcement (2), outer D-pillar (3), and on the body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install D-pillar reinforcement (2) and outer D-pillar (3) and fix in place.
- Rivet D-pillar reinforcement (2) and outer D-pillar (3) with rivets with a diameter of 6.5 x 12.5 (areas E).
- D-pillar reinforcement (2) and outer D-pillar (3)
(areas C).
- D-pillar reinforcement (2) and outer D-pillar (3)
(areas D).
- Surface grind inert gas weld joints (areas D).
- D-pillar reinforcement (2) and outer D-pillar (3)
(areas F).
Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.
- Surface grind inert gas welds on D-pillar reinforcement (2) and outer D-pillar (3) (areas F).
Surface grind only on beaded areas, contact surfaces of the rear fender, and in the visible area of the rear-end door cutout (areas F).
- Install inner side wall (1), fit and fix in place.

(areas H).
Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.
- Surface grind inert gas welds on the inner side wall (1) (areas H).
Surface grind only on beaded areas and contact surfaces of the rear fender (areas H).
