Location
The vacuum pump is flange-mounted on the timing case cover (engine 602/603/606/616/617), on front cylinder head (engine 612) or on front right cylinder head (engine 628/642).
Task
Generation of vacuum for the brake unit.

Body
The pump cover is made of sheet steel and caulked with the pump housing (engine 602/603/606/616/617). Repair of the vacuum pump is therefore impossible.
A special maintenance service is not required.
Function
Dual-action piston vacuum pump. The drive takes place over the cam plate of the injection timing device (engine 602/603/606/616/617). Lubrication is done when oil is sprayed from the engine. The vacuum pump works in both directions, i.e. it has 2 suction circuits that are connected to each other with a separation valve. One circuit supplies to the brake unit, the other circuit supplies to electrical accessories, e.g. for idle speed increase. An oil retaining valve is installed in both connections.
A fixed orifice of 0.8 mm 0 is located in the connection for the electrical accessories so that the brake unit circuit has preference for supply.
